Taugrek’s Stand

Taugrek’s Stand is the Grin hideout located in the Burning Steppes. A cave that was once a small goblin outpost known as Flame Crest, it was claimed by the Blacktooth Grin soon after the destruction of their original hideout.

Old hideout

The Grin’s original hideout was hidden underneath the burned-out Inn on the border of the Barrens and Dustwallow Marsh. In May 2007, spies bearing marks of the Keepers of Stromgarde were spotted in the rafters of the ceiling eavesdropping on Grin attack plans. Chieftan Gorfrunch was the first to spot the intruders and as the intruders attempted to escape battle was joined by arriving Grin. During the ensuing melee, oil lamps were knocked over sending the wooden supports up in flames. The spies were ultimately killed but not before the entire hideout was torched.

The Move

Following this battle, Gorfrunch determined the hideout was no longer safe and ordered Faquarl to scout a new location. Faquarl, accompanied by Yagyu, Felora and a few others rode out to the Eastern Kingdoms searching for a suitable location. They battled Alliance all along the path from Booty Bay to Darkshire and Lakeshire. Finally the Alliance, in fear of following them past the gates to the Burning Steppes, turned back giving the small advance party time to recuperate. Searching for a place to rest and tend their wounds, they happened upon the little used trading post at Flame Crest. Deciding that it was easily defensible and close to many raiding targets, Faquarl set up the Grin’s advance party there. Upon the arrival of the Warchief, Flame Crest was quickly renamed Taugrek’s Stand in honor of one of the original founders of the clan.

A Forward Base

The hideout served as a base of operations for numerous raids for the Blacktooth Grin. It was here that the Grin kidnapped Pinky, the child of Yammie and Gixxer Stickyfingers, two ranking officers of the Keepers of Stromgarde. The Stickyfingers, enraged that the Grin would try to lure them into battle with a child, searched out the location of the clan’s hideout and assaulted it. After a pitched battle, they managed to rescue young Pinky before she was killed by the Grin.
The most famous of the campaigns launched from Taugrek’s Stand however, was the Shadows Over Khaz Modan. From Taugrek’s Stand, the Grin began their campaign against the Dark Iron Dwarves which would eventually culminate in defeat. They would then face assaults upon the hideout by Alliance seeking vengeance or simply fortune seekers looking to make a name for themselves in the world…of Warcraft. The clan, led by Warlord Faquarl would abandon the cave to seek out a new home.
