Physical Description

Bearing a number of scars and stitchings, Kulasti is hardly a picture of beauty. In a number of places all over his body, discreetly placed stitchings and mismatched skin tones mark numerous skin grafts or other replacements. His face in particular is woefully asymmetrical; his right tusk is shattered, right eye sewn shut and a veritable road map of stitchings run up and down his cheeks.

In spite of this, Kulasti appears to maintain a high level of personal hygiene and posturing. The visible surgical scars and stitches seem to have special attention paid toward their upkeep; stitches appear to be replaced regularly and the more gruesome scars are thoroughly cleaned. His armor looks to have been the source of gross amounts of punishment, but still displays a high level of care and what is most likely a very expensive polish.

Character History

Scourge scientists are always seeking ways to improve the troops. New armor, new weapons, new species, new fuels, new potions, new poisons, new spells. Name anything and there's probably a Scourge scientist working on a way to improve it by any means necessary. Kulasti, or as his blueprints call him KU-14-57-1, was the result of pushing one of these experiments to its logical conclusion in the mind of his creator. In particular, Kulasti was built to push the limits of how intelligent an abomination could actually be.

Unfortunately the incredibly specific requirements of his creation left him lacking in the one area that was considered more important to an Abomination than any other: combat. Kulasti was barely any stronger than your run-of-the-mill ghoul and required several hours of maintenance if he were to return to the front lines after any injury. While Kulasti was as intelligent as a few of his creators, his lack of anything resembling combat prowess meant he was viewed as a complete failure and waste of material. And so Kulasti was stationed at Acherus; if he couldn't be useful on the front lines, he could be another body to throw into that suicide mission.

Before Acherus, Kulasti's strength had only been evaluated based on his physical abilities, but magic was something else. Magic only existed as a tool of his creators', a complex, dangerous thing that he'd been taught to resist when used against him. But the magic they used here? Simple. No intricate hand movements, no chanting, just runes that channeled magic through a weapon. It presented an interesting opportunity for the abomination, one he couldn't pass up and so, with some resistance, he became a Death Knight. While he earned quite a bit of snide commentary from his superiors, Kulasti played his role as well as any other Death Knight of Acherus. Killing, maiming, torturing, all the things he'd been built to do in the first place.

Of course, Acherus' story eventually ran its course. What surprised Kulasti was that he made no attempt to escape the battle when the opportunity prevented itself. When it was revealed to Kulasti, by the Lich King himself, that he had been deemed so worthless as to be put on an elaborate suicide mission just to coax out an old man, whatever it was that kept Kulasti loyal to the Scourge snapped. Kulasti swore the Scourge would realize the mistakes they'd made with him, preferably before he pounded each and every one of them into oblivion.
